Authors > An Easter recommendation

In the Spectator this Easter, an article recommending films about faith has named Shusaku Endo’s Silence as one to watch.

The piece which can be read in full here, does however describe the film itself, which was made by Martin Scorsese and stars Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver, as ‘in a way, a failure’ but highlights the book behind some questionable acting as a great success, and rounds off by claiming that ‘it’s the novel that’s really life-changing’.

The novel itself, republished in 2016 by Peter Owen and including a foreword from Scorsese, marks Endo’s zenith as a writer and can be found by clicking here. Some information about the author himself can be found here.
