Latest News > Anna Kavan in Notting Hill
On the 14th of November in the Notting Hill Waterstones Christopher Priest, Chris Power and Victoria Walker will take a retrospective look at the life and writings of one of our most celebrated authors, Anna Kavan. This is in conjunction with our release of ‘Machines in the Head‘, an anthology of her best short writing.
Anna Kavan (1901-1968) was a genre spanning, counter-culture female author, best known for ‘Ice‘, a visionary work of science-fiction which was recently republished by Peter Owen in our Cased Classics series.
Machines in the Head was edited and collated by Dr. Victoria Walker, so there is no-one better placed to set the record straight on the many and varied mysteries surrounding Anna Kavan at the Waterstones event. She will be joined by one of Britain’s best living sci-fi authors, Christopher Priest, who’s latest book has been hailed as a ‘gripping, mournful, powerful novel‘. The panel is completed by Chris Power, the Guardian’s short story columnist and author of the critically acclaimed ‘Mothers’, for an evening of discussion and debate. Rose Knox-Peebles, a close friend of Kavan, will also be in attendance and sharing some personal recollections of the esteemed author.
