Mircea Eliade

MIRCEA ELIADE (1907–1986) was a Romanian historian of religion, philosopher, novelist and professor at the University of Chicago. Many of his ideas on spirituality and religion continue to influence the study of theology. A controversial figure for his support of the Iron Guard, the fascist party that seized power in Romania in 1937, and for his collaboration during the Second World War, Eliade is nonetheless lauded as one of the most significant intellectuals of the twentieth century.
